Adviser Ambassador (Rtd) Mr. Supradip Chakma to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs said that that the people of hill areas are historically very welcoming, generous and hardworking. More than 11 separate ethnic groups and Bengali people have been living here for a long time with peace and harmony. The Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs has been working relentlessly to bring progressive transformational changes in socio, economic and cultural areas.

He said these while having a courtesy meeting today with the US Charge De Affaires MS Helen LaFave and her team at his office at the secretariat. He outlined and discussed a number of development issues.

While talking to the embassy team, he said that the current interim government has been working to eliminate all forms of discrimination from the society. This government aims at creating a new Bangladesh based on equity and justice for all citizens.

He also mentioned that USA has been extending its all-out cooperation in every sectors. He thanks the US government for extending help towards the interim government. He assures the US delegation team that the current government has been working to develop hill areas in multiple avenues like ecology, empowerment of women, education and tourism development in the light of SDGs. In this regard US Charge De Affairs expressed her government’s desire to work with the Bangladesh govt. in various sectors such as good governance, climate change, tourism, justice and equity, quality education and health services to the remotest people of hill areas.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mr. AKM Shamimul Haque Siddiqi , other ministry officials and us embassy officials were present among others.
